They opened the Face Place in 1976. What set it apart from the drugstore and department store beauty offerings was the Fords themselves. “It became our stage,” Jean says. “Women get preoccupied quick with, say, a zit, and their whole day gets thrown off! We create problem solvers. That’s how we began our brand: addressing ordinary problems.” True story: They invented Benetint for an exotic dancer who asked for something to make her nipples look pretty and pink.
